- A friend of mine got an old Toshiba notebook 1910cs
- (486SX/33, 4MBRAM to be expannded /200MB HDD,1 PCMCIA I/II/III
- slot with no card installed, and one mouse port with mouse
- which may or may not take one COM port)
- and Practical Peripherals PM 14400 FX MT
- external modem connected to the serial port of
- the notebook. She's been having trouble with this
- setup. She uses Hyperterminal under Windows 95 and
- from time to time modem locks up and connection
- is shut down with or without explicite 'NO CARRIER' message.
- The modem is correctly recognized as PM 14400 FX MT
- by Windows 95 and I've had no problem with it
- for about 2 years on various platforms (DOS/Win3.1/Linux/Mac)
- before I got campus Ethernet connection. It's been unused
- for about 8 months. Could that be a problem?
- The notebook has a mouse plugged into a port
- on the side. Even if modem is connected, mouse manipulation
- seems to be fine. Hence, mouse-modem serial port/irq
- collision appears not to be a concern, here.
- I haven't checked it under MS-DOS, yet.
-
- I would greatly appreciate any helpful information
- and advice to solve this annoying problem.
